When considering renovating, it is always a good idea to get the help of a designer.
Residential Renovation Consultations
Planning a renovation can feel overwhelming — but you don’t have to figure it all out on your own.
Whether you’re tackling a kitchen remodel, bathroom update, or a full-home renovation, I offer renovation consultations that help you:
-
Clarify your design vision
-
Make smart material and finish selections
-
Maximize function, flow, and space planning
-
Avoid expensive mistakes and indecision
-
Prepare for conversations with contractors and trades
-
Get started with an actionable plan — including supplier recommendations and trusted local sources for materials, fixtures, finishes, and furniture.
Consultations can be helpful at any stage of your renovation — whether you’re just beginning and need help pulling your ideas together, or you’re mid-project and feeling stuck or overwhelmed with decisions. Sometimes a bit of professional clarity can help get things back on track and moving forward with confidence.
Some clients book a single consultation and feel confident to carry out the rest on their own. Others prefer to check back in at different stages for additional guidance as the project progresses — I’m available for both.
With over 25 years of experience working with Edmonton homeowners and renovation teams, I’ll bring an objective, professional eye to your project — helping you get organized, feel confident in your decisions, and keep your renovation moving in the right direction.
This is a one-time consult that can be booked as you need — no long-term commitments or full-service contracts required.
“My husband and I ventured down the path of buying a house built in the 1960’s with the intent of virtually gutting and redesigning. We really wanted to do this ourselves and although we have some idea of our style and likes dislikes, we knew we needed someone to help us bring all our design ideas together in a cohesive way.
Jennifer’s approach to our request was to meet with us in our existing home to get a sense of our style and gain insight in to our plans for the new house. She was available for consultations with us in the new home prior to our demolition bringing samples to help us build our design board.
We appreciated the luxury of having her expertise in interior design as a consultant and weighing in during critical points of our design and at various construction phases. She has really helped us build a beautifully designed finished product.
I never thought I would be able to afford having an interior designer on standby, but her ability to check in with us has allowed us the benefit of her skillset at a reasonable price and time commitment for our project.” Nancy Simmonds
About Jennifer
Introducing House of J
Hi, I’m Jennifer — creator, designer, and dreamer. Officially, I’m an interior design consultant.
If it’s an interior and you want to make it look beautiful and functional, I’m here to help!
About Jennifer Woch
I was born and raised right here in Edmonton.
Even as a kid, design was in my DNA. My Barbies had beautifully decorated homes (complete with water-filled Ziploc bags for their waterbeds!), and as a teenager, I was constantly rearranging my wallpaper of NKOTB pictures — my mom would proudly bring people into my room just to show off my “design work.” Gotta love moms.
It wasn’t long before I was rearranging our family living room, then helping friends with their bedrooms. Design has always been my thing.
When I graduated high school, I was torn between Interior Design and Psychology. For some reason, I believed interior design only existed in places like New York or London — not Edmonton. So, I chose Psychology and completed my Bachelor of Arts degree with distinction. It was an accomplishment I’m proud of, but my creative heart still pulled toward design.
That’s when I found Lori Elms — and everything changed.
Lori had successfully built her own interior design business right here in Edmonton. She took me under her wing, mentoring and teaching me the world of interior design hands-on. From there, I moved into a design consultant role at Ethan Allen Fine Home Furnishings, where I continued to grow and refine my skills.
In 2002, I launched my own interior design business under the Lori Elms Interiors umbrella. Not long after, life paused for a wonderful reason — my first son, Julius, arrived. Once he was a little older, I dove right back into design, loving the people I met and the spaces I was fortunate to help transform.
In 2010, I took a little detour — Julius and I moved to England for a year. I soaked up every ounce of inspiration while working in a small, locally owned restaurant as my son attended school. That year shaped me, broadened my view, and reignited my passion. When we returned to Edmonton in 2011, I was ready to build my business with full momentum.
From the beginning, my goal has always been simple:
To make professional interior design accessible.
I wanted people like me to know you don’t have to spend your life savings to benefit from design expertise. Interior design isn’t just for the wealthy — good design should serve real people living real lives.
In 2012, life threw me another wonderful surprise — my second son, Caerwyn. Balancing motherhood and running a business as a single mom came with challenges, but also incredible rewards. I even remember carrying Caerwyn — not even two weeks old — to a restaurant project I was working on (RGE RD) to ensure the final touches came together. That moment taught me: I could have my cake and eat it too.
After many years of working alongside Lori Elms Design Group, I relaunched under my own name:
House of J Interiors.
Who is House of J Interiors?
House of J is a boutique interior design consulting business in Edmonton focused on practical, personal, functional design. My role isn’t to push trends or deliver cookie-cutter designs — it’s to help you uncover what works best for you.
Every space I work on is deeply personal. My inspiration comes from my clients — your tastes, your lifestyle, your dreams, your daily needs. I believe design works best when it’s both functional and beautiful.
-
A space should feel good — both to look at and live in.
-
It should function well — because beautiful doesn’t work if it doesn’t fit your life.
-
And it should reflect you — because your home or business should feel like yours.
Sometimes functionality comes down to small details most people don’t notice — but as a designer, that’s where I thrive. My job is to help you make the thousands of little decisions that, together, create a space that works and feels right.
The personalized consultations I offer are tailored to your needs — whether you’re planning a renovation, decorating a single room, or simply looking for some expert guidance. My role is to help you make confident decisions, avoid costly mistakes, and bring your design goals to life.
Inspiring. Functional. Personal. Beautiful.
